As the year-end approaches, I’ve started researching the holidays for the new year, 2020. While I’m at it, I wouldn’t want to leave you out, so I’ll share my findings with you. After all, life is more beautiful when shared. So, let’s get started on planning your 2020 holidays. Sit back, relax, and learn about the 2020 holidays and official holidays.
January 1 Wednesday: New Year’s Day
This New Year’s holiday, which falls right in the middle of the week, can be combined with other working days, but if not, you still have a 1-day holiday. If you can combine it with your annual leave and make it a 5-day holiday, you can visit many countries in Europe or Ukraine, which is closer and visa-free. New Year’s is celebrated in a festive atmosphere in almost every European country and Ukraine. During this period, many things like plane tickets and accommodation become expensive, so I recommend visiting Ukraine, where the Turkish lira is still relatively valuable. But if you say, “I won’t go anywhere for New Year’s, no need to spend money,” celebrating at home with your loved ones is also a great option.

April 23 Thursday: National Sovereignty and Children’s Day
Isn’t this one of our favorite types of vacations? Friday being in between and the holiday connecting Thursday to the weekend. In such cases, it usually happens that the one day in between is connected to the other holiday days. With a 4-day holiday at hand, what can’t you do? Even before summer arrives, you can go to Uludağ. For your 23 April holiday, Uludağ will be a great route where your kids can also have fun. Let me remind you in advance so you can start making your reservations.
1 May Friday: Labor and Solidarity Day
Now, 1 May is also on the list of 2020 official holidays. For now, holidays are progressing nicely, close to the weekends. Aren’t common holidays a reason for national joy? With 1 May falling on a Friday and connecting to the weekend, we’ve got a 3-day holiday. During this time, you can go to Bozcaada, which will start to get busy. You must have heard about Bozcaada’s popularity in recent years; I don’t recommend going there in the summer because it will be crowded. But you can go in the sweet spring weather, with the smell of summer just starting to arrive. It will be more peaceful and enjoyable than in the summer. So, I recommend Bozcaada as a route for your 1 May holiday and continue.
19 May Tuesday: Atatürk Commemoration and Youth and Sports Day
If there’s a day in between, we wish it would be declared a holiday and make our plans accordingly. If Monday is also a holiday and connected, our holiday from Saturday to Tuesday will be 4 days long. You can take a short 4-day tour of the east. On a trip from Gaziantep to Şanlıurfa, you can visit these two cities, which are adjacent to each other. I’ll offer an alternative route for this holiday. This holiday will be a great opportunity to visit Van. If you go to Van, I recommend spending all 4 days there. Because you should definitely see Ulupamir Kırgız Köyü in Van, which will take up a whole day. The remaining 3 days will be filled with other places to visit in Van. If you want to get an idea about Van, Ulupamir Kırgız Köyü, and other places to visit, I’ll leave the link to my videos here.

24-25-26 May Sunday-Monday-Tuesday: Ramadan Bayram
I wish it hadn’t coincided with Sunday, and I know you’re thinking the same while reading this. We donated one of our days to Sunday, but never mind, we have a 4-day holiday. At this time, when the weather is warming up, the Balkans will be a good option. You can go to any of the countries in the Balkans, such as Bosnia, Macedonia, or Montenegro. If you buy your tickets to leave on Friday evening and return on Tuesday, you’ll have made the most of your holiday.
15 July Wednesday: Democracy and National Unity Day
We have a 1-day break in the middle of the week. You can either go on a day trip on Wednesday or a 1-night trip starting from Tuesday evening. Since it’s the middle of summer, you’ll probably want to escape to the sea. I won’t plan the program for this 1-day break, so let’s move on to the next one.
July 31 - August 1-2-3, Friday-Saturday-Sunday-Monday: Eid al-Adha
Now, let’s talk about Eid al-Adha, one of the 2020 religious holidays. This year, our long holidays fell on weekends, which was disappointing. Our Eid al-Adha holiday is 4 days long, and we can only take 2 days off from work. Since I recommended going abroad for the previous long holiday, I’ll suggest a domestic trip for this one. You can go to the Aegean or Mediterranean regions and have a nice beach vacation during the peak summer days. Alternatively, you can visit the Black Sea region, which is famous for its stunning waterfalls and plateaus, and be one with nature.
August 30, Sunday: Victory Day
Unfortunately, this holiday is only 1 day long and falls on a Sunday. We won’t be able to take an extra day off to celebrate Victory Day, which doesn’t make 2020 a great year for official holidays.
October 29, Thursday: Republic Day
Let’s conclude with the last official holiday of the year. If we can take Friday off and make it a 4-day weekend, we’ll end 2020 on a happy note. Since Ramadan and Eid al-Adha fell on weekends and reduced our holidays, I hope we’ll get Friday off on October 29. Considering the possibility of using your annual leave, I’d like to suggest a trip. If you can take 8 or 10 days off, I recommend visiting Morocco. I visited Morocco during the 2019 Republic Day holiday, and you can find plenty of content about it on my blog and YouTube channel. Here’s a link to one of my Morocco posts.
I hope your 2020 holiday ideas are starting to shape up. Traveling is one of the good habits that make our lives more beautiful. I wish you all a year full of discoveries and look forward to seeing you in my next post.
