Akbük Cove, a paradise corner of our country that those who haven’t been to will miss out on a lot, and those who have been to will count the days to go back. Akbük Cove is one of the most beautiful coves of Gökova Gulf. It is located within the boundaries of Muğla Menteşe Sarnıç village. The crystal-clear and extremely clean sea, where you can see the bottom even in deep waters, is the biggest reason to come here.

As you enter the cove, you pass over a small bridge where the Azmak river meets the sea. At this point, you have entered the cove, and on your right, there are markets, pensions, or camping sites, while on your left, there are sun loungers and the sea. In the past, a fee was charged for vehicles entering the cove, but that problem has been solved, and no fee is charged anymore.

Akbük Cove Where

Akbük Cove is 48 km from Muğla city center and 25 km from Akyaka. It is often confused with Aydın Didim Akbük Cove due to the similarity in names, but this is an Akbük Cove affiliated with Muğla.

Akbük Cove Road Directions

You can reach Akbük Cove by land via three different routes.

Akyaka – Akbük road; The 25 km road is a coastal route with a flat, asphalt road but with curves. It is the easiest and most preferred way to reach the cove.

Ören – Akbük road; The 24 km Ören Akbük road is also a comfortable and preferred route, just like Akyaka.

Yerkesik – Akbük road; The 34 km road is steep and curvy towards the end. As you progress along the road, you pass through various villages and the Kıran mountains. When you reach the mountain road section, you will be greeted by a winding, uphill, but asphalt road with magnificent views. There are Seyir Terası points where you can stop your vehicle and enjoy the view. This route is ideal for those who want to see Akbük Cove from above. I also used this route when I went to the cove.

Akbük Cove Accommodation

Accommodation in Akbük Cove offers various bungalows, pensions, and campsites. Fortunately, most of the cove is a protected area, so you won’t find large hotels. During my stay, I explored a few places and did some price research, and you can find a place that suits every budget. Of course, the distance to the sea or the availability of breakfast affects the price. If you want to stay in a mid-range accommodation, you’ll definitely find a place that suits your needs after a short search. There are also accommodation options with sea views and breakfast included, as well as places without a view where you can just spend the night.

Among the accommodation options in the cove, there is also the option to stay in a tent. Let’s take a look at camping in Akbük Cove under a subheading.

Akbük Cove Dining

Don’t our appetites increase when we go on vacation? After a whole day of swimming and being in nature, the effect of being in nature makes us even hungrier. Since this is a small fishing cove, fish will be the most basic food you can find. During the day, the beach where you swim becomes a place for dinner tables at sunset. Of course, when you sit at tables with a sea view, prices can be a bit higher than usual. So, you can find various options, from restaurants where you can have a nice dinner to street vendors where you can eat gözleme. Let me give you a small tip: you can buy fresh fish from the fishermen who come to the shore and have it cooked at the establishments for a fee.

You’ll see signs saying “Camping is prohibited”. There are amazing places to camp at the end of the cove, which is a pity that they are prohibited.

Akbük Cove Public Beach

Akbük Cove is one of the most beautiful places to swim in the Aegean Region. Since part of the Azmak River flows into the cove, the sea is not only very clean and clear but also has a noticeably low salt content. As a result, swimming in such a sea is very enjoyable.

Akbük Cove Public Beach, starts immediately on the left as you enter the cove road. The section allocated to the public beach ends with the beginning of the establishments. The public beach has dressing rooms, toilets, and shower cabins. After a certain point, the coastal areas in front of the pensions have sun loungers and are reserved for their customers. You can swim in the sea without being noticed in these areas, but if you don’t want to take the risk of argument, you can use the public beach for free. The public beach is free, but parking your vehicle in the parking lot next to the beach is paid.

Things to Know Before Visiting Akbük Cove

1- There are sea urchins in some areas of the cove, but since the sea is very clear, you can see the sea urchins very clearly, so you can see where you step. Sea urchins have a feature that will be a nice consolation: they clean the water they live in and cannot live in dirty water. I think this is a nice consolation, don’t you?

2- The Akbük Cove sea is filled with small stones in the initial entry areas. However, these stones soon give way to fine sand. I won’t say don’t go without sea shoes, but if you do, you’ll be comfortable.

3- Akbük Cove shopping has small markets where you can shop. However, as you can guess, the prices are a bit high. So, it’s a good idea to buy your needs before coming to the cove, except for daily necessities.
