I know that the list of places to visit in Ağva is really in demand. Here, I came up with a great weekend event. Are you nature and camping lovers who want to escape the chaos of city life and breathe, saying ‘where can I camp in Istanbul’? I invite you to take a look at my article on Hacıllı Waterfall and Kilimli Cove, which I have experienced myself. Let’s start our journey, saying ‘nature is calling us’.
HACILLI WATERFALL
You can spend a weekend in nature by camping and hiking at Hacıllı Waterfall, which has won hearts with its proximity to Istanbul. Hacıllı Waterfall, connected to Ağva Hacıllı Village, has become a popular spot for campers in recent times. After descending a gentle slope from Hacıllı Village, you will see the Göksu stream coming from the waterfall. Park your vehicle in these areas and throw yourself into nature. After seeing the Hacıllı Waterfall sign, a 40-minute walk along the stream or on top of it, surrounded by nature, awaits you.
You will find yourself in a great ambiance and therapy among the sounds of birds and the stream. Isn’t it the therapy we get from nature that is the biggest reason for our urge to escape? Accompanied by these soul-nourishing sounds, we reach our destination after about 40 minutes. The waterfall also has an upper part, which can be accessed by a small climb. You won’t say ‘I won’t climb because my clothes will get dirty’ when you’ve come this far, will you? ‘You walked nicely, you climbed to the upper part of the waterfall, everything is going great, you told it beautifully, but I want to camp here, can I do it?’ I hear you say, and now I’m coming to that part.
Can You Camp at Ağva Hacıllı Waterfall?
There is no camping facility in Hacıllı, so you can set up your tent free of charge in any suitable place, either in the waterfall area or along the Göksu stream. Since there is no paid facility, there is no place where you can meet your needs such as electricity, toilet, water, or shopping. Don’t let this situation discourage you, it’s even more beautiful to be alone with nature. Don’t worry about the ground, as it is a soil floor and won’t cause any discomfort.
Hacıllı Waterfall crowd
If I go back, I will set up my camp in a suitable place by the stream, as it is brighter and quieter, which might be an idea for you. There are long green areas along the stream where you can spend the day with your chair or set up your tent and camp.
When to Visit Hacıllı Waterfall;
The waterfall’s flow changes according to the seasons. Hacıllı Waterfall, which has a low flow rate, dries up in the summer months, so I recommend visiting in the spring or autumn. Since I’ve been there in both July and April, I think April is the best time to visit.
About Hacıllı: Things You Wondered;
- If you’re going to the waterfall, you’ll leave your vehicle by the stream and continue by trekking.
- You can reach the waterfall after a 40-minute nature walk.
- There are no markets around, so you should do your shopping from the nearby Hacıllı Village or a central location and come.
- There are areas where you can camp, both at the waterfall and along the river.
- Apart from camping, there are trekking areas of medium difficulty where you can go for a nature walk.
- If possible, come on a weekday, as weekends are very crowded.
- Spring or autumn are the most beautiful seasons, as the water decreases and dries up in the summer.
- There is no phone signal.
- There are no toilets, fountains, or cafes.
How to Get to Hacıllı Waterfall;
Hacıllı village is close to Istanbul and Kocaeli routes, so I’ll talk about the distance from these two locations.
The average distance from Istanbul to Hacıllı Waterfall is 90 km. You can use the Şile highway to get there.
The average distance from Kocaeli to Hacıllı Waterfall is 60 km. You can use the Gebze highway to get there.
If you’re going to go by public transportation, you can take the 139A Üsküdar Şile/Ağva bus from Üsküdar. After a journey of approximately 2-2.5 hours, you can reach Şile and Ağva.
KİLİMLİ KOYU
Kilim Koyu is another escape point that attracts nature lovers with its proximity to Istanbul. As soon as you arrive, you’ll enjoy a visual feast by looking down from the top, and it’s like a hidden paradise. The rocks shaped by the fierce waves of the Black Sea and the white sand resemble tropical islands. There are large and small holes on top of these naturally formed rocks. After being careful about these small dangers while walking, you won’t have any problems. If you’ve caught the spirit, throw your sandwich and snacks into your bag and set off for Kilim Koyu without thinking.
Kilimli Bay Campsite
Can You Camp in Kilimli Koyu;
Like Hacıllı, there are no camping facilities here, so you’ll have to find your own solutions for needs like electricity, water, toilets, or shopping. You can camp on the beach or on the hillside, but I should warn you about the wind, especially at night. The Black Sea wind is not to be underestimated, so be careful. Apart from this difficulty, this place is great for camping. When you open the door of your tent, you’ll be amazed by the view.
When to Go to Kilimli Koyu;
You can go to Kilimli Koyu at any time of the year, but I think it’s better to go in the spring or summer. You can enjoy the beautiful warm weather of spring and make the most of the environment.
About Kilimli Koyu: Things You Wondered;
- You can leave your vehicle very close to the top of Koy.
- There are areas where you can camp, both on the beach and on the hill.
- Apart from camping, there are very beautiful areas with sea views where you can go for a nature walk.
- It’s best to come here on a weekday, as it gets very crowded on weekends when the weather improves.
- The phone signal is good, and there’s no problem with that.
- There’s a Kilimli restaurant very close by, as a business.
The road to Kilimli Cove
How to Get to Kilimli Cove;
Kilimli Cove and Hacıllı Waterfall are approximately 20 km apart. Both locations are connected to Ağva.

With this post, I tried to eliminate any question marks you may have had about my trip to Hacıllı Waterfall and Kilimli Cove, which I thoroughly enjoyed exploring. These two great locations near Istanbul, where you can fully experience the trio of forest, river, and nature walk, should be on your list as soon as possible. Remember, nature is the best friend that hosts you unconditionally, stay with nature.
